The Facts

  • A Boeing 747 of mothers die in childbirth every single day in Africa.
  • In Africa a woman’s risk of dying from treatable or preventable complications of pregnancy and childbirth over the course of her lifetime is 1 in 22, compared to 1 in 7,300 in developed regions.
  • In a country like Benin, there are 11 anaesthetists in a country of 11 million. There are 140 anaesthetists in Cardiff alone!

Projects & Reports

Gill & Nick in theatre, EthiopiaThe main activities of this Charity revolve around visits to Sub-Saharan Africa countries to provide training for anaesthetic medical staff at the front line of maternal care. Since the Charity was set up in 2005, volunteers from welsh hospitals have helped develop and deliver training in 4 countries:

GO Africa

Walk for Mothers and Children in Wales and Africa. 5th - 11th June 2010

Walk/run/cycle/swim etc to cover the mileage between Cardiff and Liberia and back and put 1 pound in the box for each mile covered.

St Patrick’s Day Dinner 2010

This was held in March. A huge thank you to the organisers for all their hard work and all our supporters. It was a fabulous night.
